Hard Times - OPB Profiles of Oregonians affected by the Recession

OPB follows several Oregonians, many of them rural, affected by the recession during 2009 (the blog title is the link to the articles).  One of the 12 interviewed is from Burns, two others are from Hood River and one from Warm Springs Reservation.  It's a very useful reminder why our services can help so many people.  I would really like to know if the fellow from Burns turned to WIA for help, and if they were able to do anything.  It doesn't seem like he's been helped much, if so.  One of the challenges for our system is that it's not always widely understood.  People sometimes do not even know that these reemployment and training services exist and are available.

I hope the people in rural Oregon who would benefit from WIA find us this new year.  I hope, even more strongly, that this new year finds rural Oregon figuring out how to sustain itself.
