MTC Summer Youth Work Experience Kick-Off.
OK, I really don’t spend all my time gallivanting around attending fairs and Kick-Offs. But, when I get to, it’s fun and much more memorable to write about here. I could write about the grant I’m attempting to put together and how I am struggling with a few of the pieces, but that’s would only be useful if there were someone writing back with advice.
I got to address about 150 kids this morning who are about to start their Summer Youth Work Experience in Region 1 (Clatsop, Columbia and Tillamook counties). They got addressed with a very short “welcome” statement from me. Julie Gassner, the Region 1 Director at Management & Training Corporation (MTC), had a much more comprehensive speech. The youth got a chance to work together on some fun activities before their Work Experience kicks in. Today was intended to help them build some skills on interacting well with others, to think about teamwork and workplace appropriate behavior. I got to talk to a few of the youth about this summer: they’re all very excited about the opportunity to have this work experience. Many of the youth said that they couldn’t find any work and this opportunity gives them a chance to build some work background and make an income.
