Oregon Underwater and Volcanic Exploration Team Project -
Back again for 2010!

Have you ever looked at a lake and wondered what was beneath its dark waters? Are you curious about the mystery of volcanic eruption and activity, its creative and destructive energies? Maybe you’re interested in mechanics and extreme vehicles? Do you enjoy being outside, active and on the go? Have you ever wondered what it would be like, to be that somebody who discovers something new?

If you answered yes to any of these questions than we want you!

Last summer we partnered up with Linn Benton Community College (LBCC) to offer a truly unique summer experience to WIA enrolled youth from across rural Oregon.  Participants had the opportunity to spend a week camping at Paulina Lake in Central Oregon along with LBCC physics instructors and students.  While at Paulina - campers took part in a research project exploring the depths and structures of the lake using a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) - in this case a Underwater ROV.  Campers also built personal ROV's to complete mission they established for themselves.

The duration of the project was 4 weeks with a new cohort of campers each week.  In the end more than 30 youth participated, in addition to 12 college students, and numerous faculty/instructors and more than 50 college credits were awarded!  The project was recognized as a Best Practice by the US DOL and was such a huge success that LBCC will be offering the program again this summer - with our help!

Registration materials are now available for OUVET 2010!  The Oregon Consortium & Oregon Workforce Alliance will sponsor 17 enrolled youth from rural Oregon.  Download pertinent info at the following links.
